Can you make fondue bourguignonne with a gelled fuel fondue pot?

I bought this nice fondue pot the other day . . stainless steel . . it spins and has dipping cups. I really love it. We made a cheese fondue last night and that was great.

Now, we want to do the fondue where you dip the meats and cook them in the hot oil . . and then dipping sauces. Can I do that with this fondue pot? It is not electric and it runs on gelled fuel capsules.

Will the oil get hot enough this way? Any suggestions? This fondue pot was $60.00 and I am hoping that I don't have to run out and get the electric one. That one is another $60.00Can you make fondue bourguignonne with a gelled fuel fondue pot?
You can certainly use this pot to cook meats in oil. Heat the oil in the pot on the stovetop first, to bring it to the right temperature. The gel fuel will maintain the temperature for about 10-15 minutes. You may have to reheat the oil on the stovetop halfway through the meal. Can you make fondue bourguignonne with a gelled fuel fondue pot?
Hi,

It sounds like you got a "Lazy susan" fondue pot, probably something that looks like that top one here: http://www.bestfondue.com/all-fondue-sets.html

Nice. Because your pot is made of stainless steel, you can definitely use it to make hot oil (or hot broth) fondue. Gelled fuel will get it plenty hot to cook meat. I hate pouring hot oil, so the safest way to proceed would be to pour room temperature oil into your fondue pot, light up the burner and wait a few minutes for it to be hot enough to cook your meat. I would wait about 5 minutes or so with the fire fully on, then test with one piece of meat on a fork and see how the oil reacts when you dip it in.

You should be able to adjust the heat level by opening the slots on your burner to the widest size possible, which will make it as hot as possible.

This chart here shows you which pots can be used for various types of fondue :http://www.bestfondue.com/how-to-make-fondue.html

So, yes, your current pot will be perfect for hot oil.
