How do you use a fondue pot?

I can't figure out how to work it. I have no idea how long we've had it. The instructions are gone. I'm trying to make chocolate fondue. Any tips? How do you use a fondue pot?

you need to give more details about the pot. is it electric, does it have an open flame, or nothing at all? the ones i have seen, you mix up the sauce on a regular stove then transport it to the fondue pot and only serves as a serving piece. i guess it depends on what kind you have. sorry. How do you use a fondue pot?
When you get fruits, make sure to get "green seedless grapes." I know you'll say, "grapes and chocolate"? ... but it was the favorite when I tried out MY fondue pot about a month ago.

We did:

ORANGE SLICES - pretty decent

PRETZELS - good

GREEN GRAPES - FABULOUS!

APPLE SLICES - good

SPONGECAKE - not great

KIWI - not good

BLACK CHERRIES - okay, lots of work to pit them

MARASCHINO CHERRIES - much better

BANANA - good

STRAWBERRY - good

... can't find MY directions at the moment, either. I think we needed either 3 or 4 (probably 3) ounces of chocolate per person ...
